Volvo has been focused on safety for decades. In fact, 57 years ago (almost to the day) a Volvo engineer named Nils Bohlin received a US Patent for his three-point seatbelt design, which we still use today, largely unchanged. Here at Volvo Cars Orange County, we know safety matters to our customers, which is why it matters so much to us. Volvo has a vision for the future that says it would like to see no one killed or seriously injured in a Volvo vehicle by the year 2020—this includes children, which is why Volvo offers its own line of specially designed children’s seats.

Volvo understands that there is no “One Size Fits All” approach for safety, especially when it comes to children. That’s why it offers three different safety seats for children, designed to be more comfortable and easier to use so that children and parents will want to use them for longer. The three sizes are Infant Seat, Child Seat, and Booster Seat, suitable for children up to 10 years of age. Volvo wants to keep kids in safety seats and traveling rearward-facing seats for as long as possible, because research shows that’s the safest.

“Our focus is on ensuring that young children travel in the safest manner possible, depending upon their size and age. This means rearward-facing up to the age of at least 3 or 4 years and after that with child seats or booster cushions up to 140 cm in height. The safety benefits are unquestionable, yet many parents unwittingly allow their children to sit forward-facing too early. One of the many reasons quoted for this is comfort – the child complains that there is not enough legroom, or is too warm due to the upholstery. We believe that children will be more comfortable in our rearward-facing new seat and that this will encourage parents to keep their children rearward-facing for longer. This will have a direct impact on overall child safety and support our Vision 2020, where no one will be killed or seriously injured in a Volvo car by the year 2020.” said Lotta Jakobsson, Adjunct Professor, PhD and Senior Technical Leader, Injury Prevention at Volvo Cars Safety Centre
